Updated 07/13/26 · By grantmaking.ai · VerifiedAIxBio Africa is a five week remote research fellowship that supports early career researchers in Africa or those working on Africa specific problems that are working at the intersection of AI safety, biosecurity, governance, and public health. Fellows work on independent research projects, guided by mentors in the space from academia and industry and participate in weekly research discussions, and receive feedback throughout the program.
The pilot cohort brings together a small group of fellows selected through a competitive application process. Research topics include AI evaluations, AI governance, biosecurity, frontier AI risks, and related areas relevant to African and low resource contexts.
By the end of the fellowship, each fellow is expected to produce a high quality research output, such as a benchmark, technical report, policy brief, or draft academic paper suitable for publication or further development.
