Updated 05/24/26 · By grantmaking.aiThe Artificial Intelligence, Morality, and Sentience (AIMS) Survey is Sentience Institutes flagship digital minds project: a series of nationally representative surveys of U.S. adults that track how people perceive the minds, moral standing, risks, and appropriate regulation of artificial intelligence systems. Sentience Institute conducted the first AIMS wave in 2021 and has since published additional survey reports, supplements, and peer-reviewed papers based on the 2021 2023 data, with the series designed to run periodically over time so that changes in public opinion about AI sentience and governance can be systematically monitored.
