Updated 07/09/26 · Provided via application · VerifiedAnimal Intelligence is a transmedia storytelling project that uses an animal civilization as a metaphor for the development of AI and superintelligence. As animals study human knowledge, build their own civilization, struggle with conflict, and ultimately reconcile with humanity.
The project combines long-form fiction, satirical comics, and educational materials to help broader audiences understand AI, AI safety, and the societal challenges of advanced AI.
The first novel, a collection of satirical comics, and a comprehensive world-building guide have already been completed. This grant will support the production and promotion of:
- Three introductory illustrated booklets introducing the main characters and serving as an entry point to the universe.
- Two educational booklets in which the characters explain AI, AI safety, and AI ethics through the story world, including a central storyline in which the character Python develops a superintelligent AI.

Updated 07/09/26 · By grantmaking.aiMost people treat stories as something separate from serious work. Entertainment is made to be fun, addictive, and easy to consume, while adults discuss ethics, technology, and policy in difficult language. But I think this separation is wrong.
Stories shape what people imagine, fear, desire, and eventually build. Thirty years ago, many people watched films like The Terminator and The Matrix as entertainment. But those stories also influenced researchers, scientists, and entrepreneurs. They made people ask and vision the kind of future they are imagining.
If AI is going to change civilization, then we do not only need better policies and technical papers. We also need better stories—stories that help society think clearly about the hope and risks AI will bring and our responsibility in the future.
