Updated 08/26/26 · Provided by member · VerifiedI'm Habeeb Abdul, Policy Lead at PauseAI Nigeria. I'm also co-founder of AI Safety Hub Nigeria (250+ members) and founder of EA ABU. I was recently accepted to attend PauseCon, PauseAI's training conference for organisers and members working to prevent the development of unsafe AI, running 5–7 September 2026 in London.
Participation is free and PauseAI covers three nights of accommodation, but travel from Nigeria is not covered. I've already checked with the organisers about sponsoring my trip, and they confirmed their budget doesn't stretch to cover travel costs this time.
This request is to fund my return flight and related travel costs (local transport) so I can attend in person, take part in the workshops, and bring the skills and connections back to Nigeria — to strengthen organising capacity and scale PauseAI Nigeria's community-building efforts.

Updated 08/26/26 · Provided by member · VerifiedCatastrophic AI risk is a global problem, but most organising capacity is currently concentrated in the US, UK, and EU. Nigeria and the wider Global South are underrepresented in the AI safety movement despite having a stake in how these technologies are governed and deployed. PauseCon is built specifically to train current and future organisers to go home and build local groups and run campaigns. By attending, I gain direct access to PauseAI's organising playbook, workshop facilitators, and a peer network of organisers from other countries — then apply that directly to growing PauseAI Nigeria campaign and policy work. This increases the number of trained organisers working on AI safety outside the usual hubs, which widens the base of political and public pressure for safer AI development globally, and strengthens Nigeria's own capacity to engage with AI policy as it becomes more relevant domestically.
