The aim is to offer talent from outside the standard Western EA-adjacent circles a visibility to the field, career options and pathways to these through tooling and interaction with others already in the field.
In that sense, I view CareerMap as an early infrastructure for addressing the pipeline problem of AI Safety space in particular.

AI Safety is one of such civilisation scale problems. But the current pipeline for human resources and attention in this field is far too narrow. This results in continued homogeneity of the field. Which results in less than optimum level of support that the field needs across research, fieldbuilding and perhaps most importantly - buy-in and implementation of some of the solutions at scale at policy levels.
This pipeline problem is partly because of

lack of visibility of the field itself (outside of Silicon Valley influence sphere),

lack of visibility of career-options in the field,
-
lack of visibility on clear paths to these options for someone looking in from the outside
