Project Details
Updated 07/06/26 · Provided via application · VerifiedThis is not a traditional tech project. The focus of this project is to balance technology and public health and safety. While there is ample evidence that whistleblowing has the potential to bridge the gap between rapid advancement and public health and safety (accountability), there is no recent empirical study to support such claims. The idea is to capture the whistleblowing framework and it's effectiveness in the top 10 US AI companies according to the Forbes list and enquire into the existing the whistleblowing mechanism and the effectiveness of such existing whistleblowing mechanism and then make recommendation to strengthen such whistleblowing mechanism for the safe and ethical ai future. The project will be done in partnership with Dr. Dimitrios Kafteranis, who has wealth of knowledge on whistleblowing in the EU and UK region and has authored book on whistleblowing in the financial sector of the EU. After the completion of such project, a report will be made which will exactly give the statistics as to how effectively the whistleblowing mechanism is working within the AI companies and to give policy recommendation to the regulators so that we can achieve the goal of safe and ethical AI.
Theory of Impact
Updated 07/06/26 · By grantmaking.aiThe role of whistleblower is crucial in both pre-deployment as well as post-deployment stage. They don't necessarily focus on a specific risk but rather make sure that the AI as a whole is not misaligned to it's values and to the law and doesn't inflict public harm and public safety.

Hi Apoorv, I'm curious how this project would connect with initiatives like https://aiwi.org/ Do you know if they have already collected some of this information and undertaken this kind of analysis? I believe AIWI has already published some commentary on some of the frontier whistleblower policies that are publicly available? (eg anthropic, OpenAI?).
Secondly, do you anticipate any issues in being able to travel to the companies and collect the kinds of data you are seeking?
