I write Tetherware on Substack and contribute to Phi/AI, a writers collective around philosophy & AI. My background is in psychedelic medicinal chemistry. After four years of research at UCT Prague and UCL on a novel class of neuroplasticity-inducing drugs, I co-founded April19 Discovery, a biotech applying AI to psychedelic drug discovery. About 2 years ago I made a risky career bet, stepping away from my biotech career to work full-time on understanding consciousness and agency/goal-setting/free will before superintelligent autonomous AI. Just recently, we launched Entropic Science, a new research community at the intersection of AI, quantum mechanics, artificial life, and consciousness research. Starting with introducing true quantum randomness into LLM token sampling, our growing Discord community is building the infrastructure to systematically study whether quantum entropy plays a role in the behavior of complex intelligent systems.
