Org Details
Updated 07/07/26 · Edited by orgSteadRise (formerly Impact Academy) is a non-profit AI safety talent accelerator and hiring partner. It identifies experienced professionals from outside the field and supports their transition into critical technical and operational roles at leading AI safety organisations, combining data-driven talent sourcing at scale with high-touch career-transition and application support for selected candidates. Its core thesis is that the shortage of senior, leadership-capable talent is among the central bottlenecks to the safe development of advanced AI.
Founded as Impact Academy out of the Effective Altruism Sweden community, the organisation piloted its first programme in 2023 and has since narrowed from broad, cohort-based education toward continuous, individualised recruitment built around partners' live hiring needs. Its Global AI Safety Fellowship, launched in late 2024, paired experienced STEM talent with organisations including FAR.AI, and the UK AI Safety Institute, and produced multiple direct hires. In 2024 its grant-making arm was spun out into the independent Astralis Foundation.
SteadRise raised over $2 million across three funders in 2023, including Open Philanthropy (now Coefficient Giving), and continues to fundraise to scale its placement work. It operates globally with a lean team and is registered as a UK private company limited by guarantee (company number 14989456).
Theory of Impact
Updated 07/07/26 · Edited by orgSteadRise believes the safe development of advanced AI is constrained less by junior interest than by a shortage of experienced, leadership-capable talent in AI safety research, governance, and operations. Its theory of impact is that this bottleneck can be relieved by reaching capable professionals who are not already embedded in existing AI safety pipelines and moving them efficiently from first contact into high-leverage roles. To do this at scale, SteadRise pairs data-enabled talent sourcing and vetting with personalised, high-touch career-transition and application support for its strongest candidates, and works directly with leading AI safety organisations to align this pipeline with their live hiring needs. By counterfactually surfacing and placing talent that partner organisations would not otherwise have found, it aims to accelerate the work of the organisations best positioned to reduce catastrophic risks from advanced AI.
